Metsu Shoryuken Setup + Overview
Admit it, Ryu's ultra 2 looks cool, you feel a inner satisfaction when you land this on someone. But just one slight problem, damage is good, looks sexy, but against a good player you probably won't have many chances to land this. (There obviously are some setups, e.g. Jumping heavy kick --> Ultra 2, and more; but you usually get more damage for the same setup with ultra 1).
But you probably came here to actually learn setups for the FULL ANIMATION. Most full animation setups occur in the corner, like trial 24. That stuffs all good, but some people prefer easier setups, more bang for your buck sort of thing.
The general idea is to do a cr.medium kick, cancel to hadouken then FADC to ultra 2; BUT at the correct range. So you cant be right next to the opponent when you FADC the hadouken & start the ULTRA 2 animation.
As you can see, in the above video, I start the jump in approximately 2 and 1/2 (two and a half) BIG squares on the floor. (If you aren't familiar with the training room squares, you REALLY need to look!?).
For this combo the jump in range varies on the opponents hitbox, really awkward characters like Sagat and Blanka. btw you can actually catch Blanka with a jump in heavy kick, from almost 3 WHOLE BIG SQUARES!!
Another strategy I use for this ultra is baiting opponents, well baiting can be used for most moves LOL not just this ultra! e.g. on opponents wakeup pretend to do the full focus attack animation, dash out early and punish. VERY basic example but just something to get you started.
Hope this helped, keep on Shoryuken-ing guys, TheHeartOfBattle.

Greetings, if you've seen the name, I'm sure you realise that i am indeed a Ryu maniac [one of many :) ]this is the first of many posts that I will do.
Expect lots of Fighting game stuff to be on this blog, I "specialize" in mostly Street Fighter 4 (PS3), Marvel vs Capcom 3 and just recently Mortal Kombat (2011).
Thanks for visiting my blog, (what little is actually made!?)
